Why Crochet?

Well, why not?

I was born and raised in Sweden, where handicrafts are still very much alive. In my family, both on my mother's and on my father's side, I can't think of a woman who doesn't practice at least one favourite textile craft - be it knitting, crocheting, weaving, sewing, embroidery...

It came very natural to me to learn at least some of these crafts. My mother taught me knitting and crochet. Firmly anchored in tradition, I thought of knitting as the fiber craft to make garments, and of crocheting as the fiber craft to make home decor items. I have since changed my mind.

Moving to France to live with my French husband widened my horizon in many, many ways. I discovered a new country, a new culture. Among other things, I realized that in France, fashion and well-tailored clothes are a natural part of every-day life. On the other hand, handicrafts are sadly forgotten by at least one whole generation.

Some years ago, it all came together. I started to make my own crochet designs. The knowledge of the craft of crochet, acquired in my Swedish childhood, met the interest in fashion I had developed while living in France. Ever since, each day is a step forward on a fabulous journey towards new discoveries. You're very welcome to join me!
